How To Support Small Business During Social Distancing

Updated: Sep 10, 2020

I bet you're missing your favorite bar, cafe, and restaurant. You know - the spots that greet you by name and fire up your usual order as you walk through the door. The spots that randomly serve up shots you didn't order. We all miss them. We miss the owners and staff. We miss hanging with our friends there.

If you want those places to exists when social distancing is a thing of the past, you may want to consider supporting them while their doors and tills are closed. Most of them have been forced to close until further notice. Their staff is in limbo, unsure if they'll have a job in a few weeks - maybe months. The owners are on standby watching their dreams, passion and savings slip away day by day.

This is a good time to put in a call or send in a message requesting a gift certificate, even if they're not advertising them. It's a good way to let them know that they're in your thought; and not just because you miss the beers, burritos, and bibimbap. Let them know you also miss the intimate customer service you'll never experience at a McDonald's - which will continue to exist no matter how long this drags on.

After purchasing these gift certificates, send them to your friends. This is also a great way to let them know you miss them too.

The concept of a "community" is really difficult to grasp right now. Hang tight. These are the times when community bonds are stregthened.
